On 7 October 2026, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Alexei Shevtsov chaired a meeting of the interdepartmental working group overseeing preparations for Peoples of Russia International Week. 30 different government agencies and organizations were represented at the meeting.

The work of the government agencies and organizations involved in preparing for Peoples of Russia International Week is being coordinated by the Security Council of Russia by Decree No. 382 of the Russian President dated 1 June 2026.

Meeting participants delved into plans for the business programme panel sessions, Film Forum, Pride of the Nation Awards, educational marathon, Youth Day, and the content of a report on how the media would be covering International Week events.

The business programme panel sessions, for which government officials, public figures, and leading experts from over 40 countries have already confirmed participation, will be dedicated to international cooperation in the cultural sphere, historical relations with traditional allies and the importance of passing down a proper understanding of our heritage, state policy, and our duty towards our Fatherland. Topics at the centre of attention will include the preservation of the culture and traditions of the peoples that inhabit Russia and daily manifestations of unity among different ethnic groups.

Deputy Secretary Shevtsov rounded out the discussion by thanking the participants for their work and calling on his colleagues to pool efforts in the leadup to events.

Peoples of Russia International Week will usher in Unity Day, which stands as a symbol of the unity of Russian society and the legacy passed down from one generation to another.

Events will be held in Moscow and across the country from 2 to 8 November 2026.
